Today, you were given an injection into your eye known as an “intravitreal injection.” The purpose of this injection is to deliver medication to the retina.

As a result of the injection, you may notice the following:

  • A “cloud” of medicine and floaters coming into your eye when the medication is injected.
  • The vision is usually blurry immediately after the injection and then gradually clears.
  • Depending on the medicine used, floaters may persist for many days.
  • The eye may be red and may sting or itch.
  • It is normal to sometimes have bloody tears right after the procedure.

Call the clinic if you experience steadily increasing pain or steadily decreasing vision after the injection. If you call after clinic hours, our on-call staff will contact you. The number is: 952-929-1131 or 1-800-635-1797.

Follow-up care is very important. Be sure to keep your scheduled appointment.
